TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Working Within the merSETA Framework
At ABCO Engineering, we recognise that long-term engineering excellence depends on structured skills development and disciplined technical training. As a third-generation engineering workshop operating within South Africa’s manufacturing and automotive sectors, we actively align our training initiatives with the framework established by the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA).
merSETA operates under the Skills Development Act (1998, as amended) and serves as one of South Africa’s Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), responsible for promoting skills development across the manufacturing, engineering and related services industries.
While merSETA does not directly conduct training, it facilitates industry development by:
• Managing levy-based training grants
• Accrediting training providers
• Supporting artisan development programmes
• Promoting structured workplace-based learning
• Implementing strategic initiatives to address national skills shortages
Through our engagement within this framework, ABCO supports structured training, artisan development and the transfer of technical expertise within the remanufacturing and engineering environment.
OEM-Aligned Technical Development
In addition to alignment with national skills development structures, ABCO maintains active partnerships with Global OEMs, ensuring that our technicians receive training aligned with manufacturer specifications and evolving technical standards.
This dual approach — national skills framework compliance combined with OEM-specific technical training — ensures that our workshop maintains:
• Up-to-date technical capability
• Documented process control
• Compliance with manufacturer service standards
• Continuous professional development of staff
Our commitment to structured training reflects our belief that engineering quality is sustained through disciplined knowledge transfer and continuous skills advancement.
